D181 MUSIC STUDENTS – PARTICIPATE IN #LIFTYOURVOICE

All District 181 music students and families are invited to participate in #liftyourvoice, a community music project that will connect thousands of musicians!

#liftyourvoice is a project started by an orchestra teacher in Naperville. It invites all people young and old (and in between!) to learn the tune Simple Gifts. Then, on Saturday, October 10 at 6:30 pm, go outside to your porch, yard, or driveway and play or sing the tune. It does not have to be in sync with anyone else – the idea is simply that people from all over our community, state, and country will be performing the same song at the same time and connecting through music.

All D181 music students will learn “Simple Gifts” in their music classes this week and are invited to participate on October 10 (if they have a conflict at 6:30, they can perform at another time!). The community is invited to share videos of performances on social media with the hashtag #liftyourvoice. Our D181 students will be invited to share a video of their performance on a self-contained Flipgrid page (information will be provided in their music lessons).

Want to learn more? Visit the #liftyourvoice website, or check out a quick video explanation of the project on youtube. We hope you #liftyourvoice on October 10!
