Junior Great Books (JGB) for students in Grades 3 and 5 will meet once a week starting in April, for six sessions. During this enrichment class, students will discuss a story, learn new vocabulary words, and play a game or participate in an activity related to the story. The use of Shared Inquiry discussion during class helps improve reading comprehension and critical thinking. Weekly readings (which are done at home) will be from the Junior Great Books texts provided. These are typically folk or fairy tales from around the world. Stories are short, and should take no more than 30 minutes to read at home.
JGB classes will meet as follows:
Grade 3: Thursday mornings, 7:50am to 8:30am, April 4, 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9
Classes will be taught by parents: Megan Mikhail, Andrea Memon, Becky Schreiber
Grade 5: Monday mornings, 7:45am-8:30am, April 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13
Classes will be taught by parent: An Groom
Cost of the class is $25 per child, which includes the book and materials.
