PARCC Testing Begins Next Week! – Grades 3-5
The PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) test is a computer-based assessment aligned to the Common Core State Standards and will be administered to students in grades 3-5. Each grade level will take a total of eight units of testing, which will include three units of English Language Arts (ELA) and four units of math. Specific grade level testing times are listed below and are also posted on our Madison School calendar.

As a parent, please help support your child for PARCC testing by making sure he/she gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and comes prepared for the testing. Our teachers will take a comfortable approach to the testing so as to not create any undue stress on our students. You can simply remind your child to do his/her best. If possible, please avoid any scheduling and doctors appointments, etc. during the scheduled testing. Students not present during scheduled testing times or who will arrive after testing begins will need to be pulled from class to make up the PARCC testing before the window closes in April.

Need Your Help –
* iPads, iPad chargers, and keyboards – Please make sure your child has these items. Students will keep their iPads and iPad chargers at school during testing.
* Headphones – Please make sure students bring their headphones with them on testing days.

Parent Input for the 2018-2019 School Year:
We are beginning the process of classroom placement. Please know classroom placement is a lengthy process and one which we put a lot of time and effort into. Our grade level teams and specialists (reading specialist, differentiation specialists, resource teachers, and art, music, and PE staff) work together to share input and create class composites conducive to learning. We take into account your child’s academic and social/emotional needs. Our goal is to create equitable classes in terms of size, instructional supports, gender, etc. and allow for groups of students who can benefit from learning together.

If you have information that you believe we should consider as we begin the process of developing class lists for next school year, please put your thoughts in writing via email (krutan@d181.org) with the subject heading CONFIDENTIAL STUDENT PLACEMENT 2018. Your comments concerning your child’s learning, social emotional characteristics and needs will be taken into consideration as we create class lists of students who can benefit from learning together. We respectfully ask that parents NOT request a specific teacher. If you plan to send an email, please do so by Monday, April 23rd, 2018.

Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call.
