Madison School Spelling Bee – Grades 3-5
Madison students in grades 3-5 are buzzing about participating in their classroom spelling bees. The top two spellers from each homeroom will advance to our Madison Spelling Bee on Friday, January 24. From there, two Madison School winners will move on to take part in the District Spelling Bee on February 4. After that is the DuPage County competition followed by the Scripps National Spelling Bee that takes place outside Washington, D.C. in May.
Our goal is to foster excitement about spelling and allow students to show off their hard work and talent in a safe and encouraging environment. We hope to inspire confidence in our students and to “bee” the best they can “bee!” For more information, click here. Good luck to all of our participants!
Welcome New Madison Nurse – Anne Mueller
Please join us in welcoming our new Madison nurse – Mrs. Anne Mueller. She has been working closely with Mrs. Bellich to learn all about Madison and make the transition as smooth as possible. We are excited to have Mrs. Mueller join our Madison family!
Winter MAP Testing – Begins Next Week!
Winter MAP testing will be administered to students in grades 1-5 between January 16-24. Please see the MAP testing schedule below. We ask that you make every effort to avoid appointments and/or other absences during these dates so we can prevent having students miss instructional minutes during make-up sessions.
We use the data from this assessment in a variety of ways. In the classroom, it provides teachers with a means for monitoring student growth in reading and mathematics over time. At the District and building levels, MAP data help us set goals and evaluate initiatives. Finally, in conjunction with other criteria, MAP scores are also considered in placement decisions. While specifics for placement have not been approved for the 2020-21 school year, MAP scores have historically been included as a component. Please just let us know if you have any questions!
MAP Testing Schedule:
January 16 – 4th & 5th Grade Reading
January 17 – 4th & 5th Grade Reading (continued)
January 21 – 1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade Reading
January 23 – 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Math
January 24 – 2nd Grade Math
5th Grade Health/Puberty 1 Presentations
New this year…D181 is now sponsoring the Health Education program, previously offered by the PTO as an elected opportunity for our 4th grade girls and 5th grade boys. The new program, Puberty 1, is only for 5th graders, so our 4th graders will be able to participate next year!
On February 6, during the school day, Robert Crown Health Center will present separate boy/girl sessions for all 5th grade students. For more information, a webinar is available to D181 parents throughout the month of January. You can access the webinar here using the password POV131.
